Acne is a devastating problem. It not only attacks your face but seriously undermines your self esteem and morale. The worst part is that acne often starts when you are a teenager and this is when you are the most sensitive about your looks. It is often triggered by hormones and can settle down after the adolescence years. However it does not always go away and sometimes it is necessary to take steps to control it. There are some simple natural ways that can greatly alleviate your acne and sometimes help to clear it up. Even as adults during times of stress acne can show up and cause problems with your self-image.
•Drink water: drink plenty of water as this will flush toxins from your body and hydrate your skin.
•Eat a healthy diet: it is very important to eat a healthy diet. Your skin reflects what you eat. If you eat junk it is likely that your complexion will not be that good and you are setting yourself up for skin problems. Chocolate can also be a problem and may cause breakouts in some people. Eat foods that are high in Vitamins E, A, B and D and foods rich in minerals like calcium, potassium, phosphorus, chloride, magnesium, zinc, iron and sodium. You can get these vitamins and minerals from eating fruits and vegetables. These important vitamins and minerals can also be obtained from whole grain foods and dairy foods like yogurt. Try to eat carrots as they are high in beta-carotene, this helps with the healing of acne scars.
•Face cleansing: Clean your face morning and evening with using a topical preparation, such as benzoyl peroxide has been known to be helpful. Good basic hygiene can do wonders for your face and even purge acne. Be gentle when you wash your face so you do not crush the pimples and cause them to erupt and spread bacterial infection.
•Change your pillow cases: residue from your acne and bacteria will settle on your pillow cases. It is wise to wash them daily or every other day to prevent infections. Sleeping on a silk pillowcase has been know to help reduce acne breakouts.
•Makeup: use light makeup if your skin can tolerate it. Try to use natural products that will not irritate your skin and be sure it is water based. Never leave makeup on your face overnight. Use a mild make up remover and then be sure you wash your face with medicated soap created specially for acne.
•Keep hair away from your face: Your hair picks up dust and dirt and can contribute to bacterial infection and brush dirt onto your face. Also wipe off your cell phone face after each time you use it as it is also can contribute to acne breakouts. If one side of your face is breaking out more than the other, it maybe due to your cell phone.
•Honey mask: You can apply honey weekly or twice a week to your face. Honey is in fact anti bacterial and will help to keep your face free from infections and help to clear up any skin infections you may have.
•Herbal remedies: You can use strawberry leaves, wet them and place on your face. This method has been used since olden times by the ancient Egyptians.
One thing you need to really remember is never prick or squeeze those pimples, this can lead to spread of the acne and also contribute to scarring.
Acne doesn't have to ruin your life, if you have problems that can not be taken care of with simple tips make an appointment with your dermatologist. You may have a more severe type of acne that needs to be treated with prescription medications.
