Guys, for those of you who are wondering what it would be like to really try nail polish, but
haven't yet summoned the courage to actually go out and either buy a bottle or even order
some online, here is something that may help get you started...
This really happened to me: I was at Wal-Mart with my son to buy several colors of paint for a
model car we were working on. We did not find anything we liked in the hobby section, so I
thought we'd check in the nail polish aisle because I had seen different colors on women's
nails like green, purple, and blue recently. Sally Hansen had just come out with their chrome
line and we thought some of those polishes would look great on the car, so we bought a bottle
of green, blue and silver.
When we were checking out, the gal at the register smiled politely and asked if the nail
polish was for me. When I told her no, that it was for the model we were working on, she got
this disappointed look on her face and said "oh, too bad". Well, it did not hit me right away, but
I later figured out what she meant was that she thought guys who were open-minded enough to
try something like this were pretty cool in her opinion. I never got the chance to go back and ask
her for sure, but that experience put the idea in my head about trying polish anyway, and after
that, I wondered what it might be like...
It wasn't until a few months later when my wife was painting her toenails one evening that I got
the idea to see if she had any interest in me wearing it, so I placed my foot next to hers and said
" would you mind doing mine too while you're at it?'. Well, she did! I never felt the same in
trepidation about it after that. I even would go buy her polish occasionally in a color that I
thought would look good on her, and if someone would have asked (which they never did) I
would say that it was for my wife.
Anyway, what I am saying here is that you should not feel at all intimidated or nervous about
buying nail polish. No one is going to blow the whistle on you or call out the police. It's your
choice and you can do it if you want to, many other men already do! And, you will need to buy a
few before you find one or two that you really like. Colors are like that, they are hard to figure out
because they look different in different types of light. And they look different on your nails than in
the bottle too. You have to experiment with them and that is how you will get much better at
knowing what works for you - and what doesn't. But, you have to take that first step and buy a
few in order to develop a sense of what you really like.
My advice is to just go to your local store and pick out a few colors that you think would look
good. Make sure you buy remover too, not only to take it off, but to clean up as well. Nail polish
will not come off with soap and water, so you'll need this stuff! Then, go home and experiment
with it. It's not permanent and you can try it as much as you want with little or no risk. Once you
get more comfortable, you will probably want a few more colors to try, just be careful not to get
too carried away. There are many stories online about people who become addicts of sorts
and end up with 100s of bottles of polish before they 'come to their senses'. Hey, it happened
to me! Now I only buy a new color if I really, really like it. Otherwise, I take some of the old ones
and mix and match colors to develop something unique. Up until recently, colors that looked
good on men were hard to come by. But now that BB Couture has developed their men's lines,
that is becoming much easier.
